Alphabet Hunt
Upper-Case Letters
This is a great activity for when your child is becoming confident with recognising upper-case letters. It is also good to assess which ones your child needs more practise with.
Fridge Mix-Up
Tricky and High Frequency Words
For this activity, Jacob worked on four of the tricky words from Phase 3. However, this could be easily adapted to use words from other sets, high frequency words or specific words which your child needs to practise (please see my information section for the order of teaching tricky and high frequency words linked to the phases of phonics).
Peg Hunt
Single Letter Sounds
For this activity, Jacob worked with the first set of letter sounds from Phase 2. However, this can easily be adapted to use with any others (please see my information section for the order of teaching letter sounds and a guide to the phases of phonics).
Rice Hunt
Digraphs and Trigraphs
For this activity, Jacob worked with all of the digraphs from Phase 2 and the first four from Phase 3. However, this can easily be adapted to use with any other digraphs or trigraphs (please see my information section for the order of teaching digraphs and trigraphs and a guide to the phases of phonics).
Word Cups
Segmenting and Blending
For this activity, Jacob worked on the segmenting and blending of CVC words using the first set of letter sounds from Phase 2. However, this could be easily adapted to use any other letter sounds (please see my information section for strategies to support the teaching of segmenting and blending linked to the phases of phonics).
